The Keppel Bay Sailing Club was formed in 1957, following a boating mishap on Keppel Bay.Since this time, the Keppel Bay Sailing Club has continued to grow and today it is considered one of the premier sailing clubs in Queensland.

As the Keppel Bay Sailing Club grew, it became apparent that a regular Clubhouse was needed. The Livingstone Shire Council offered the Club the lease on the old Skating Rink, which was situated on the beachfront approximately 150 metres north of the current Clubhouse. However, the old tin shed, as it was affectionately named, was in a state of ill repair and in desperate need of renovation. Dances were conducted on Friday and Saturday nights to raise the necessary funds.

By the 1970's, it was bingo that provided a solid revenue base for the Keppel Bay Sailing Club. Plans for a new clubhouse, situated further south along Anzac Parade at the present site of the Clubhouse, were underway when Cyclone David damaged "the old tin shed" in January 1976 and hurried the plans along. The new Clubhouse was opened on 30 April 1977 and extensions undertaken in 1985, 1992, 1995, 2003 and 2006/07.

The Club's revenue base received a dramatic boost in 1992 with the introduction of poker machines. This allowed management to expand both sailing and other facilities for its members. In 1998, the Club opened its second premises, known as "The Spinnaker", on the site diagonally opposite "The Clubhouse". The new premises was extended in 2002 and has eased the pressure on the Clubhouse, returning it to some of the splendour of years gone by.

In mid-2005, the Yeppoon Bowls Club approached the Keppel Bay Sailing Club for assistance and consequently, the Club's Management Committee agreed to underwrite a community facility and purchase the Yeppoon Bowls Club. In October, constitutional changes were approved to allow the Club to encompass other sports and then in February 2006, the Keppel Bay Sailing Club commenced operations at the Yeppoon Bowls Club under a management agreement. The Keppel Bay Sailing Club officially purchased the Yeppoon Bowls Club premises on 1 July 2006. This premises, which is now known as "Krackers", is located four kilometres from the other buildings on the western outskirts of Yeppoon.
