Back in the late 1980s, when Sir Charles Kingsford Smith's original flying school hangar at Mascot was about to be demolished, a plan was hatched to relocate the building to Bankstown Airport. The significance of this landmark in Australian aviation history inspired many to action, and it wasn't long before the dream of establishing a major aviation museum was in full flight. The dream crystallised into the creation of a world class Museum at Bankstown Airport which could showcase the history and future of aviation, space technology and the role played in world aviation progress, presenting this information in a contemporary, educational and entertaining way.
